Our funders

The Great British Chemicals programme is a flagship investment (£18 million over seven years) in Sustainable Industrial Futures funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).

The investment focuses on tackling cross-sectoral research challenges rooted in excellent, leading-edge engineering, physical and environmental sciences and transdisciplinary approaches to enable the transition of UK industrial manufacturing processes and operations to net zero.

Through this funding opportunity, EPSRC and NERC aim to drive a sustainable industrial future, shifting the UK away from environmentally detrimental industries and processes to more sustainable and circular alternatives that will enable wider environmental and socio-economic benefits.

EPSRC creates knowledge in engineering and physical sciences for UK capability to benefit society and the economy.

NERC is the driving force of investment in environmental science.
