We will look at the ways we can take captured and purified carbon dioxide and transform it into value-added chemicals that can be used as precursors in the chemicals manufacturing supply chain and in products that remove the need for fossil carbon. This will include fine and bulk organics and inorganics. Furthermore, we will take advice from industry as to which chemicals are required with a feel for costs relative to the petrochemical routes. Independent studies have previously shown that the chemicals that show the greatest potential for emissions reduction and potential revenue are organics such as synthetic fuels, polymers and methanol. However, the highest value-added comes from metal carbonates produced from waste and used as aggregates and accelerated carbonation for the construction industries.
